Buyer Beware!

THREE SIMPLE WAYS TO IDENTIFY A QUALITY PRESA CANARIO

These are a few quick and easy ways to identify the purity of the parents before purchasing a puppy.

1.  REAR END

The Presa Canario is known for its unique angulation of its rear end. The first example shows the correct angulation of the Presa Canario.

The first two photos below display examples of a correct topline - straight and level ascending to croup.

The third photo displays an example of an INCORRECT topline.

2. COLOR

There are also a lot of breeders out there that will tell you that the color of the dog doesn't matter; A little white here and there is just fine. This is a fact, there are no all black, blue, grey, or white Presa Canario. This breed is only allowed to have 15% or less white and it cannot be on the feet or backside, only allowed on the chest. Here are some examples of dogs that aren't genuine Presa Canario, usually seen in the U.S.

3. THE FEET

Incorrect - Rabbit FootThe breed is cat footed with toes that are well rounded, Thick dark pads, dark nails.  White nails should be avoided.   Also beware of the dogs that have white tips on their toes and tail, these dogs are generally of American Pit bull Terrier influence.

Incorrect- Rabbit foot.  Foot is flat with toes spread out.  Middle toes much longer than ends.  Pasterns are weak and angulated.
